James Bond 007 News and Rumors: Skyfall is Bond 23, the new James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig, released November 2012

001: When is the next James Bond movie coming out?
James Bond 23, 'Skyfall', is currently in Production and is scheduled for a UK cinematic release on Friday, October 26th 2012. The USA release will follow, two weeks later, on November 9th 2012. For 9 months between April 2010 and January 2011, the production of the 23rd James Bond adventure was on hold until MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) completed Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedures. The latest release from MGM confirmed that James Bond 23 was on target for a November 2012 release with adventures following every two yearsthereafter. Filming for the new James Bond began photography on 3rd November 2011 in London. Shooting at Pinewood studios is expected to commence on 7 November 2011. Apress conference was held in on 3rd November to commemorate the start of filming.
002: Why was Bond 23 put on hold & how can MGM make James Bond if they were bankrupt?
In a short press release, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions suspended production, citing the 'uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM'. At the time, MGM was going through a restructuring and pre-packaged bankruptcy procedure, having had its debtors accept a plan put forward by Spyglass executives to manage the studio after debt was swapped for ownership. This has since taken place, with Chief Executive Officers Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum taking on the management of MGM. MGM will produce Skyfall with Sony Pictures. Sony will also be distributing Bond 24, as expected by industry commentators. The aim is that James Bond films can be made every two years and be made self-sufficient by the profits inherent in the new James Bond film (Skyfall). Sony Pictures was widely expected to be the producing partner to secure this deal, especially after Paramount and Fox bowed out of negotiations. Sony distributed the last two James Bond outings under the agreement reached when the company was part of the consortium that took over MGM in 2005. It is still uncertain if the chance of a James Bond DVD distribution deal, which hit the press in February 2011, will also go to Sony.
003: Will Daniel Craig still play 007 in the new James Bond movie?
Yes. Daniel Craig is contracted to the production for three films - the first two being Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. He will will return in James Bond 23 (Skyfall). This was widely expected within the community but it was confirmed in a press release issued by EON Productions in January. The actor also has an option on a fourth adventure which gives him first-refusal on the part.
004: Who will star in 'Skyfall'?
Amongst the names mentioned in association with the 23rd James Bond movie have been Rachel Weisz, Kevin Spacey, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Bernice Marlohe, Helen McCrory and many others. Javier Bardem, the Oscar-winning villain in 'No Country For Old Men,' was outed by industry bloggers in January 2011 as being in contention for a James Bond villain's role. His lips were not sealed for long; Bardem spoke to the presses to confirm he had been asked and was a fan of the franchise but had yet to read the script. By October 2011, Bardem was open about his accepting a role in the film and confirmed in an interview he would play a villain in Bond 23. According to trade reports, Ralph Fiennes will be performing a strictly limited run as Prospero in 'The Tempest' due to commitments to 007. Fiennes is routinely rumoured ahead of casting the James Bond adventures. It was revealed on June 6th 2011 that British actress Naomie Harris was being considered for a role in the new James Bond film. What started out as a rumour in the UK tabloid, New of the World, turned into a story when first, the actress herself, and then EON Productions confirmed they were in talks. The official cast list includes: Daniel Craig as James Bond, Naomie Harris as Eve, Bérénice Marlohe as Séverine and Judi Dench as 'M'. Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw and Javier Bardem are confirmed for the picture, but roles remain unknown.
005: Who will direct 'Skyfall'?
Sam Mendes. Mendes has long had his name associated with the production of Bond 23. Prior to halting production in April '11, Sam Mendes joined the Bond 23 team as a consultantto the production of the 23rd James Bond film. This method was used to avoid triggering a payment to Mendes from bankrupt MGM and thereby giving the studio partial owenership of the production. Now that 'Skyfall' is officially back in production with MGM/Sony, Mendes has been confirmed as the helmsman in an official press statement. Sam Mendes has also attracted the acclaimed cinematographer, Roger Deakins to shoot James Bond 23. The pair have a working relationship from 'Revolutionary Road'.
006: Who is writing the new James Bond movie?
The regular duo of Neil Purvis and Robert Wade are writing the new James Bond film alongside John Logan. In a press release in June 2009, EON and MGM announced thatacclaimed screenwriter Peter Morgan would be working on a plot-line for 007. By October 2010, Morgan revealed that when EON Productions put the Bond 23 production on hold, he left the team with nothing more than an outline. When Mendes joined the production, he ushered in American screenwriter John Logan. His credits include the critically acclaimed Broadway production, 'Red', Tom Cruise's 'The Last Samurai' and contributed to the screenplay of 'Gladiator' (2000).
007: Where will 'Skyfall' be set and what locations will be used?
London, UK; Scotland, UK; Istanbul, Turkey; Shanghai, China. First James Bond location scouting rumours emerged in April 2011 when English Cricket star Darren Gough casually mentioned he sat next to James Bond 23 director Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli on a flight to Johannesburg. Previously, Sam Mendes told a West End colleague he was departing for Bond 23 location scouting. Immediately MI6 readers made the link and knew South Africa was on the shortlist. Later, some bloggers confused Jeffery Deaver's 'Carte Blanche' being set in the country, and assumed that the location was final, however there is no official report. Between April and September 2011 news centred on India. In May, via a Telegraph of India interview, Craig confirmed that India was on the table, saying, 'We are working on the schedule for India'. In September 2011 the Indian railway minister confirmed to the press that permission for an ambitious stunt sequence on Indian railways was approved - filming in and around Goa was scheduled for February 2012. Plans to shoot on location in India were scrapped at the last minute after too many delays dissuaded the production executives from taking the film there. In September news of filming permission in Istanbul emerged and was confirmed by a meeting between Executive Producer Michael Wilson and Turkish officials. The following month the residents of famed Scottish castle Duntrune confirmed to the mediathat their home would be the location of an explosive finale for 'Skyfall'.
